Sporting background: Got drunk at a party once and came off second best in a fight so I had to learn to protect myself, I learned Kyokushinkai Karate from one of New Zealand’s best martial artist at the time. Think it would have been easier giving up drinking. Then married my childhood sweetheart and with 3 girls to bring up who had time for sport!
After taking part in Many Miles for Mary last year I realised just how unfit I was, so saving up for a mountain bike now to beat up the tracks around Auckland.

Why do you want to do the MMFM run?
Mary was my mother (Jamie’s grandmother ) when I received a call in August 2009 from Jamie on the start line in Cairns to say he was on his way to start his run from Cairns to Townsville in memory of mum I so wanted to be there to help. What he had taken on and committed himself to complete in 2 and half days was just awe-inspiring. I was so far away and felt helpless so I made a promise to myself that I would try my best to help the following year. When Jamie and family moved back to New Zealand I was chuffed as hell cause I know I would have no excuse now for not helping him. So here we are in our second year in New Zealand and the next run is going to take place in Tasmania. What more can I say “Watch out Tasmania the Milnes are coming”
What are you most looking forward to?
The buzz that is created by a great group of people focused on a common goal. The group last year was amazing we became so close in such a short time. When we arrived at the finish line it was just the greatest feeling knowing that you were part of a special event that played a major part in so many lives. So looking forward to this years event.
What are you least looking forward to?
The travel over to Aussie no doubt having to sit in the departure lodge waiting for flights.
