Age: 36
Nationality: South African
Sporting background: I spend the majority of my day on my butt in front of a computer, so getting out and doing something active is really important to me to bring some balance into my life.
My sporting background has been varied, from playing hockey and water polo at school, to sailing, scuba diving, free diving, dabbling in sky diving, rock climbing and cycling.
I took up running after university when a fractured hand meant I couldn’t do any other exercise. I ran my first marathon shortly after, but it has only been in the last few years that ultra-running has caught my imagination. I completed my first 100km run in March this year.
Why do you want to run?
The idea of running long distances for 9 days in a row has a certain scary appeal; it definitely goes way beyond anything I have done before! Combining that experience with raising money for an excellent cause makes for a winning combination in my books.
What are you most looking forward to?
Hopefully helping to make the lives of sick children and their families that wee bit easier; and the pleasure of spending 9 days on the open road with a great crew.
What are you least looking forward to?
Do you know how cold it is in Tasmania in August?
